Who are they? People who couldn’t walk by. People with big hearts who, every day, rescue those who cannot ask for help — animals trapped under debris, left in destroyed homes, or found on shelled streets.
Mahatma Gandhi once said: “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”
That is how the “Hatul Madan” shelter was born — a place where cats and dogs evacuated from war zones find safety and care.
Their story began in the spring of 2022, when hundreds of animals were left behind in the destroyed towns of Irpin, Bucha, and Hostomel — lost, hungry, but alive.
With the support of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, a team of volunteers built the first enclosures within just a few days, and their mission has been growing ever since.
Today, the shelter operates at 9 Amosova Street, Kyiv, and its doors are open 24/7 to everyone seeking help or wishing to offer it.
The organization is dedicated to evacuating, treating, and finding new homes for animals affected by the war.
Every rescued cat and dog carries a story of survival, hope, and love. To date, they have already saved more than 150 animals, and continue doing so every single day despite all difficulties.
